Our History
In 1945, Bill and Romie Schneider saw a need for affordable housing in the Madison area during the Baby Boom, so they established Wisconsin Trailers on University Avenue in Madison, Wisconsin. Young Navy pilot and son-in-law, Jack Eagan, joined Bill and Romie’s venture in selling house trailers.
Bill and Romie feared a decline in the housing market's needs and wanted out of the business in 1949. Being a man of vision and conviction, Jack took over the business alone and renamed it Wisconsin Trailer Mart, while completing his business degree at the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
In 1952, Wisconsin Trailer Mart was relocated to 3006 East Washington Avenue in Madison, Wisconsin.
Prior to 1957, Wisconsin Trailer Mart sold only house trailers, or mobile homes. In 1957, campers were introduced into the RV inventory. In 1966, our first Winnebago motorhome was sold.
In 1965, Wisconsin Trailer Mart took its third location and third name, Wisconsin Mobile Homes, Inc., across from East Towne Mall at 4201 East Washington Avenue in Madison.
In 1969, Jack Eagan's son, Michael, and son-in-law, Dick Hoffmann, became involved in the business. Dick worked in the service department and Michael in sales. In 1972, Michael started the motorhome rental program; the dealership stopped selling mobile homes, and became a 100% Recreational Vehicle dealership.
Dick Hoffmann became Service Manager in 1974, until his retirement over 25 years later. In 1984, Michael and Dick purchased Wisconsin Mobile Homes, Inc. from Jack. In 1986, Michael and Dick made the last move to our present location at the intersection of Interstate 90/94 and Hwy 51, exit 132, along with a new name, Wisconsin RV World, Division of Wisconsin Mobile Homes, Inc.
Michael's daughter, Christine Eagan, became involved in the business in 1991. In 2001, Christine purchased Wisconsin RV World from Michael and Dick and became President.
Wisconsin RV World carries on Jack's vision of a family business serving other families with the best that the Recreational Vehicle lifestyle has to offer. Over 60 years... four generations... one family: That's commitment!
